Mesalamine for microscopic colitis In a recent Cochrane review of the effects sulpizine versus placebo (also known as Xalatan) in patients with chronic ulcerative colitis (UC), researchers looked at data on ulcerative colitis trials conducted over a period of nearly 20 years, which evaluated the effectiveness of placebo and sulpizine in over 1,400 patients with UC. The authors also examined results from an ongoing phase III trial involving 3,071 patients. This particular trial is ongoing, however, and did not include patients with Crohn's disease, because a meta-analysis of previous studies had found little or no benefit of the sulpiride (Xalatan) in this condition.
